On site Comments

It has come to my attention, the comments plugin isn't functioning. A fix is due over the weekend, along with more content.

No particular reason for absense of updates, other than social life and being engrossed in a strategy game.

Keep an eye on twitter and other social media sites, for the updates.

960 GTX EVGA

A quick overview of frame rates. Tested on a system with 4GB Ram, Athlon II 240 clocked at 3.5GHZ.

Considering the CPU is fairly weak, the framerates are impressive at full 1080p.

GTA IV - badly coded game, not optimised at all. All settings on high. View distance set to 40. Traffic set to 35. While on foot, average of 35fps. While driving, average of 25fps.

But can it run Crysis? Yes! Yes it can. Everything set to very high, AA at x4. Average of 43 fps.

Unfortunately I became absorbed in games, so haven't tested other games yet.

I can confidently recommend this card as a 1080p card that will not disappoint. Well worth the money.

VGM is Quiet?

A brief break from staring at code, has allowed more game and social time. As well as putting lipstick on a bird.

Reviews have been done, and are just waiting to be added to the web code.

So not to overwhelm the big G, the content will be added over the next few days.

Also, been looking into streaming gameplay, which will become a regular thing sometime in the near future.

Letsplay's and video reviews are also in the pipeline.

VGMad on Pinterest

A VGMad Pinterest account has now been set up, for those of you that spend a lot of time there.

All new additions to the main site will be pinned, so keeping you updated without having to check the site all the time.

Other various video game related stuff will also be pinned and repinned from other pinterest users and the web.

Tweaks and a Clue?

A few tweaks have been applied to the website.

Most noticeable, is the addition of icons beside titles, on the main VGMad homepage.

These will provide an at a glance indication on the content type, to save reading every title if you are only focused on browsing one specific content type.

Page load times haven't been impacted with this addition, due to some nifty image optimisations.

Below is the key to the icons. As you will notice, an icon in there gives you a clue, as to what section is on its way.

More will be revealed as that section goes live.

Difficult Design Decision

It's become apparent that games on PC are also released on other formats.

Therefore, the sub sections of console and phone, under the reviews section, seem to be left in limbo.

I am now seriously considering dropping the sub sections under the reviews tab. Or use them to index and direct to specific multi format review of  a title.

Being so few reviews at the moment, indexing might seem a little tacky. I'll try it for a week or two and see how it goes.

In the meantime, another review will be added later today.

Steadily, VGMad is populating with content. This isn't bad considering i'm working on other projects.

A first video is also in the works. This probably won't be complete until sometime in February though, due to video editing being very time consuming.

More Menu Problems

UPDATE: menus displaying properly now.

I have noticed on some devices, the menu's are not fitting on the screen, making some options inaccessable.

This will be fixed as soon as possible.

VGMad Relaunched!

It took a while. Pleased to have it relaunched at long last. In fact, the actual relaunch was 3 days ago now, I just never got around to spreading the word at the time due to putting my feet up after such a time consuming effort.

What I feel must really be pointed out, is that during coding and optimisation, I found that there was a bug in some old android releases.

This bug seriously affected the whole sites navigation, so I began looking at workarounds to have the menu work on those affected devices.

Unfortunately, every single workaround I tried, required the use of code that seriously slowed down the speed at which VGMad web pages loaded, for everyone.

This meant I had to decide on a menu that was 100 percent compatible, on every device in existence, or keep the speed of the site as fast as possible.

In the end I opted for speed. I hope this doesn't deter any visitors that have a buggy device. Have no fear, I did still provide a way for buggy devices to navigate the site.

If you have a buggy browser, and I know the Galaxy S3 and Tab 3 are affected and still are popular, you will find a navigation that works for you at the bottom of every page.

I strongly recommend you use a non-buggy browser, such as google chrome, so to avoid this problem on VGMad, or any other website that doesn't cater to your navigation needs.

That is all. Enjoy.
PS, feedback on the site, navigation, ease of use etc, is most welcome.

Man Flu

Little has been done the last few days, due to being blessed with the fabulous man flu.

Surely there's a game to be made, ridiculing this painful bout of illness.

Twitter Account and Other updates

Today I set up a twitter account for VGMad, this account will mostly be used to inform Followers of latest content updates.

The Twitter account will NOT spam followers.

twitter.com/VGMad

One page of content has been completed. 13 to go before site relaunch.

More would have been done, if it hadn't been for the football team I support, kicking off in 20mins. Beer time!

What is Perfection?

For the few couple of months, I got to redesigning the main website, spending the majority of that time tweaking code and layout.
The whole reason for me not actually creating content on any of my projects, is perfection.
I absolutely hate slow loading webpages, and I felt my own designs were too slow. I went on a trimming spree, removing unnecessary page bottlenecks.
Following that success, I kept thinking that I could do better on the layout, across various devices (responsive web layout).
Weeks, and I really mean weeks, have been spent on minor cosmetic tweaks.
Trying to get that perfect look and feel, is annoying as hell, because nothing is perfect.
Thankfully, I am somewhat satisfied with the look and feel now, so I can get cracking on content.
Unfortunately for you, none of the changes will be noticed until at least 14 pages of content has been produced. Below is a sneak peak of the desktop view.

VGM or VGMad?

I could never decide, so I will likely refer to Video Game Mad, as both VGM and VGMad until I settle with one.

As it happens, the url vgmad will be its main name on blogger and the main website (vgmad.hatredfun.com)
